Hollywood Top Actress - Salma Hayek
Hollywood Top Actress - Salma Hayek 1
Salma Hayek first scorched stateside cineplexes as the fiery border town bookseller who romances Antonio Banderas' vengeful "mariachi" in "Desperado" (1995). A favorite of the film's renegade writer-director Robert Rodriguez, the former telenovela star from Mexico gained a foothold in the American movie business in independent film and as a favorite on men's magazines "Sexiest" lists. Spokesmodel work for cosmetics companies further banked on her hourglass figure and smoldering on-screen charisma, but Hayek proved to have far bigger ambitions than to be another piece of Hollywood eye candy. Among her biggest box office hits was a leading role in the Will Smith summer blockbuster "Wild Wild West" (1999), though her most acclaimed performance was her Academy Award-nominated starring role as Mexican painter Frida Kahlo in "Frida" (2002), which Hayek, as producer, worked for years to bring to the big screen. She went on to earn significant respect for executive producing the ABC comedy "Ugly Betty" (2006- ), which she helped adapt from its original format as a daily Columbian soap, and earned a Daytime Emmy for directing the family film "The Maldonado Miracle" (2003) for Showtime. Hayek valiantly tried to translate both her looks and intelligence into worthy film roles with varying degrees of success. However, it was her instincts as producer and director which earned consistent accolades.Hollywood Top Actress - Salma Hayek 2
Salma Hayek - Born Salma Hayek Jimenez on Sept. 2, 1966, the actress was raised in the Mexican port city of Coatzacoalcos, Vera Cruz. Hayek's oil executive father was of Lebanese descent and her opera-singing mother of Spanish descent. With her exotic racial makeup, her distinctive looks were turning heads even when she was just, by her own words, a "flat girl." Hayek spent part of her childhood in the United States, including two years at a Catholic boarding school in Louisiana from which she was ejected and several teen years living with her aunt in Houston, TX. She returned to Mexico to attend Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, but eventually drifted away from her International Relations courses to pursue acting.Hollywood Top Actress - Salma Hayek 3
Salma Hayek - In 1989, she won the hearts of her countrymen when she landed the title role of the comely bad girl protagonist on "Teresa," an extremely popular primetime telenovela. Fearing that Mexican audiences valued her looks more than her thespian skills, Hayek left Mexico at the height of her television fame in 1991 and headed for L.A. where she studied acting at the Stella Adler Studio and made a concerted effort to improve her English, which proved a challenge considering the actress' teen diagnosis of dyslexia. It was also upon her arrival that she famously cold-called the William Morris Agency for representation, asking to speak to the long-deceased William Morris, himself.Hollywood Top Actress - Salma Hayek 4
Salma Hayek - The newcomer began to make a dent in Hollywood in 1993, landing a recurring character role on "The Sinbad Show" (Fox, 1993-94), and a small supporting role in Allison Anders' well-regarded indie feature "Mi Vida Loca" (My Crazy Life) (1993) while eschewing stereotypical offers to play explosive mistresses and sexy maids. Up-and-coming writer-director Robert Rodriguez helped fuel her career when he cast her opposite Antonio Banderas in the stylish but violent cult favorite "Desperado" (1995), the sequel to Rodriquez' 1992 acclaimed low-budget marvel "El Mariachi." After the moderate box office hit and big Hollywood buzz, Hayek returned to Mexico to shoot the Spanish language art film "Midaq Alley/El Callejon de los Milagros" (1995). She had an unremarkable supporting role in Cindy Crawford's lambasted film debut "Fair Game" (1995), but Rodriguez continued to give Hayek her most interesting opportunities, with a cameo in his segment of the ill-conceived feature "Four Rooms" (1995) and a role as a blood-sucking snake-dancer in the Quentin Tarantino-scripted vampire outing, "From Dusk Till Dawn" (1996), directed by Rodriguez.Hollywood Top Actress - Salma Hayek 5
Salma Hayek - While now known on the indie film circuit, Hayek had yet to truly go wide in a mainstream picture and was struggling to find a niche in Hollywood. Under the assumption that her drop-dead gorgeous looks might make sense in romantic pairings, she was cast opposite Matthew Perry in the underperforming romantic comedy "Fools Rush In" (1997). Playing a Mexican woman who hastily marries an American and then proceeds to fall in love with him, Hayek made a valiant effort, but critics and audiences were not impressed. She was next paired with Russell Crowe in "Breaking Up" (1997), a film about a couple who constantly separate and reconcile, which was deemed lackluster enough to be released directly to home video. She fared somewhat better as the fiery gypsy dancer Esmeralda to Mandy Patinkin's "The Hunchback" (1997) in the TNT TV-movie. In 1998, Hayek seemed positioned to become a huge name with her starring role as a coat check girl and aspiring singer in "54," a chronicle of the notorious 1970s New York discotheque. Eleventh hour re-shoots and changes to the love-triangle storyline cut Hayek's screen time short, and the resulting film proved to be a homogenized disappointment to audiences and critics alike.Hollywood Top Actress - Salma Hayek 6
Salma Hayek - While Hayek sought to be known primarily for her acting, her exotic looks and curvy figure continued to earn the most renown, and in 1998 she made a rather historic mark as one of the first Latinas signed as a spokesmodel for Revlon cosmetics. Hot on the heels of that honor, she finally enjoyed a blockbuster breakout with a leading role in "Wild Wild West" (1999), the sci-fi Western anchored by Will Smith. Her indie film street cred was tapped by director Kevin Smith, who cast her as a muse in his controversial ensemble comedy "Dogma" (1999), and the same year Hayek produced her first theatrical feature, a Spanish language adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez' "El Coronel No Tiene Quien le Escriba" (1999) in which she also starred. Hayek played a Playboy model-turned-cop in the straight to video comic heist "Chain of Fools" (2000) but followed up with a commitment to more serious fare, taking a small role in Steven Soderbergh's acclaimed anti-drug drama "Traffic" (2000) and appearing as a sexually controlling actress in Mike Figgis' experimental multi-screen drama, "Timecode" (2000).Hollywood Top Actress - Salma Hayek 7
Salma Hayek - Hayek starred in and produced the Showtime feature "In the Time of Butterflies" (2001) and the following year, "Frida" (2002), her labor-of-love production about Mexican surrealist painter Frida Kahlo, hit screens and cemented the producer and star's reputation as a serious talent. Reaction to the beautifully shot film - directed by avant garde auteur Julie Taymor and co-starring Alfred Molina as Kahlo's artist husband Diego Rivera - was mixed, but Hayek's passionate performance was roundly praised and she was finally able to transcend both her sex symbol status and the limits of her ethnicity to receive an Academy Award nomination as Best Actress. She reunited with director Rodriguez first in a humorous cameo in his family film hit "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over" (2003) and then to reprise her role as Carolina in the successful third outing in his El Mariachi series, "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" (2003). The actress-turned-producer next turned director with "The Maldonado Miracle" (Showtime, 2003), earning a Daytime Emmy award for deftly handling the family film that addressed such delicate subjects as immigration and the existence of miracles. Returning to the big screen, Hayek demonstrated highly combustible chemistry with co-star Pierce Brosnan in the cliché caper comedy "After the Sunset" (2004).Hollywood Top Actress - Salma Hayek 8
Salma Hayek - The entertaining period adventure "Bandidas" (2006), co-starring Hayek and Penelope Cruz as gun-wielding turn-of-the-century Robin Hoodettes, never made it to theaters. The disappointing screen adaptation of John Fante's classic "Ask the Dust" (2007), where Hayek co-starred opposite Colin Farrell as the forbidden immigrant love of a Depression-era Los Angeles novelist, should have been shelved but hit a limited release long enough to rack up negative reviews. However Hayek's big screen missteps were overshadowed by enormous prime time success with "Ugly Betty" (ABC, 2006- ), an American adaptation of the popular Colombian telenovela "Betty La Fea" (RCN, 1999-2001) which was executive-produced and adapted for American audiences by Hayek. The hour-long comedy about a working class young woman (America Ferrara) navigating the sophisticated and catty world of a New York fashion magazine instantly captured the public's attention. Hayek's guest-starring appearances as the magazine's editor helped boost its first season ratings and earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.Hollywood Top Actress - Salma Hayek 9
Salma Hayek - Hayek's film acting career remained hit-or-miss, with a co-starring role as a real-life 1940s career criminal in "Lonely Hearts" (2007), barely hitting theaters despite generally positive reviews. The same year she was tapped by "Frida" director Julie Taymor to showcase her singing in the popular Beatles-based musical "Across the Sea" (2007), Hayek gave birth to a daughter in the fall, though by the following spring her engagement to French executive Francois-Henri Pinualt was called off. "Ugly Betty" was renewed again in 2008 with Hayek making a guest appearance on another popular female-helmed comedy, "30 Rock" (NBC, 2006-) and in 2009 she returned to film in an adaptation of a popular children's book series, "Cirque du Freak" (2009), in which she played a bearded woman in a traveling freak show.Tuesday, October 11, 2011

Hollywood Top Actress - Anne hathaway
Hollywood Top Actress - Anne hathaway 1
Actress Anne Hathaway had a wholesome start in Hollywood, establishing her strong screen presence with breakout roles in family fare "The Princess Diaries" (2001) and "Ella Enchanted" (2004), while many of her peers were getting far more attention for their rehab and party antics. But the well-grounded, well-educated Hathaway held focus on her career, evolving into impressively three-dimensional adult roles in widely heralded films "Nicholas Nickelby" (2002), "Brokeback Mountain" (2005) and the role which proved she could more than hold her own against the greatest talents, as well as carry a film herself - "The Devil Wears Prada" (2006). Having proven her potential range and her flair for intelligent, feisty, and often unpredictably intense characters, Hathaway found herself with steady offers in both comedies and dramas and a promising career usually far from the tabloid spotlight.Hollywood Top Actress - Anne hathaway 2
Anne hathaway was born in Brooklyn, NY on Nov. 12, 1982, and raised in suburban Millburn, NJ. Her father, Gerald, was a lawyer while mother, Kate McCauley, was an actress who inspired Hathaway to follow the same creative path. Hathaway's natural talents proved to be far more evolved than the average high school theater star, resulting in the teenager being accepted into the prestigious Barrow Group Theater Company in New York City. A trained soprano, Hathaway also performed at Carnegie Hall as part of the All Eastern U.S. High School Honors Chorus. Three days after that momentous performance at Carnegie Hall, she was offered a role in the short-lived television drama "Get Real" (Fox, 1999-2000). After a stint in Hollywood, Hathaway returned to graduate from Millburn High School and studied at the academically competitive Vassar College before transferring to New York University. In New York City, she was able to maintain a presence in the acting world while also maintaining a down-to-earth life with students her age.Hollywood Top Actress - Anne hathaway 3
Anne hathaway - In 2001, the unknown 19-year-old became an overnight sensation with her lead role in Disney's "The Princess Diaries," after having charmed director Garry Marshall by accidentally falling off her chair during her audition. The slip convinced Marshall that Hathaway was perfect for the role of the awkward American teenager who discovers she is a princess after the death of her absent father, and is groomed for the throne by her regal grandmother (Julie Andrews). Marshall - who had directed "Pretty Woman" (1990) - also saw more than a fleeting glimpse of a Julia Roberts-like look and feel to Hathaway's performance. The family film was a box office success and Hathaway found herself in the position of reluctant role model to tweens everywhere. Her next release was the indie "The Other Side of Heaven" (2002) which had actually been filmed prior to "Princess Diaries," but producers delayed its release when it became apparent that the film's star was about to become an overnight success. Unfortunately, Hathaway's newly bankable name was not enough to transform "The Other Side of Heaven" into a hit, though it did strike a chord with Christian audiences.Hollywood Top Actress - Anne hathaway 4
Anne hathaway followed up with a role as beguiling artist Madeline Bray in the Dickens adaptation "Nicholas Nickleby" (2002), which was one of the year's critical picks and a Golden Globe nominee for Best Picture. That year, she also made her Broadway debut as the lead in a revival of "Carnival!" and impressed critics with her well-rounded song and dance talents. Her first misfire - another aspiring Princess tale "Ella Enchanted" (2004) - lacked the sparkle of "Princess Diaries," but Hathaway rebounded with a sequel to her mega-hit, reprising her role in "Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement" (2004). But even though she was a newly minted star with a hefty paycheck rolling in, the actress found herself at a crossroads, dangerously close to being typecast in family fare if she did not make some choices that showcased darker, more complex angles. She made her first break with the past by playing a bored, wealthy Los Angeles teenager who entertains herself by cruising the ghettos for drugs and gang member boyfriends, but advance reviews resulted in straight-to-video status for "Havoc" (2005).Hollywood Top Actress - Anne hathaway 5
Anne hathaway - A supporting role in Ang Lee's Academy Award-nominated and controversial "Brokeback Mountain" (2005) successfully showcased the actress' evolving talent to a worldwide audience. Fully decked out as a Texas rodeo queen-turned-businesswoman, Hathaway gave a commanding performance that spanned decades and followed her character's transformation from rambunctious flirt to disillusioned, long-suffering wife of a distant husband with a secret double life (Jake Gyllenhaal). Back in the star seat, Hathaway proved yet again that she was a bankable talent with the hit comedy "The Devil Wears Prada" (2006). Based on the bestselling and critically reviled novel about an assistant at Vogue magazine, Hathaway's character was a plain Jane-turned-glamorous fashionista, as a result of constant humiliation by her demanding boss (Meryl Streep). She eventually rebels against the unreasonable standards of beauty and in a triumphant ending, returns to her true love - wearing flannel and tackling serious journalism.Hollywood Top Actress - Anne hathaway 6
Anne hathaway - In 2007, Hathaway took on the daunting role of portraying beloved English novelist Jane Austen in the fictionalized portrait of the author's early years, "Becoming Jane" (2007). While praised for her chemistry with romantic lead James McAvoy and her dedication to immersing herself in the character, the resulting film was a critical toss-up that brought in only moderate business. But another successful comedy was on the horizon, with Hathaway co-starring opposite Steve Carell in the summer release "Get Smart" (2008). As Agent 99, a character made famous by Barbara Feldon in the original 1960s TV series, Hathaway was a perfect casting choice to play the infinitely more competent of the pair of spies. After starring in the independently made, but little-seen disaster thriller "Passengers" (2008), Hathaway gave a standout performance in "Rachel Getting Married" (2008), playing an overly dramatic, crisis-ridden woman who returns home for her sister's wedding. Hailed by critics, Hathaway earned several year-end nominations, including nods for Best Actress at the Independent Spirit Awards, Golden Globes and Academy Awards.Hollywood Top Actress - Anne hathaway 7
Anne hathaway - Prior to earning her first Golden Globe nod, Hathaway went through a bad patch of personal trauma that was amplified by public embarrassment. In June 2008, her longtime boyfriend, Italian real estate hotshot, Raffaello Follieri, was arrested by the FBI for defrauding investors through his Follieri Foundation by claiming he had connections to the Vatican that would allow him to buy land owned by the Catholic Church at a discount. Follieri then misappropriated his investor's money by spending upwards of $2.4 million on his lavish lifestyle, which included a $37,500-a-month apartment on 5th Avenue in New York that he shared with Hathaway. The couple was together since 2004, but Hathaway broke off the relationship soon after Follieri's arrest. The FBI did, however, confiscate Hathaway's personal journals - she participated in the foundation's development and was a financial donor - but court papers later stated that she was an unwilling beneficiary of stolen money. Hathaway was in a state of shock for a spell and stayed away from the press, but later gave an interview detailing the fiasco in the October 2008 issue of W magazine.Hollywood Top Actress - Anne hathaway 8
Anne hathaway quickly rebounded from her personal trials with "Bride Wars" (2009), a comedy about best friends (Hathaway and Kate Hudson) who schedule their weddings on the same day and at the same location, New York's famed Plaza Hotel. Hathaway continued her romantic comedy streak by joining the ensemble cast of "Valentine's Day" (2010), directed by Garry Marshall. The star-studded film followed the interwoven lives of couples and single people living in Los Angeles on the most romantic day of the year. She delivered another nuanced performance as the eccentric White Queen in Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" (2010), opposite Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen. Both "Valentine's Day" and "Alice in Wonderland" fared well in the box office, reaffirming Hathaway's commercial appeal. That same year, she won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Voiceover Performance for her guest stint on the long-running animated series, "The Simpsons" (Fox, 1989- )Hollywood Top Actress - Anne hathaway 9
Anne hathaway - Continuing her exceptional year, Hathaway earned widespread critical praise for "Love and Other Drugs" (2010), in which she played the alluring and free-spirited Maggie, who develops a powerfully intoxicating romance with a charming pharmaceutical rep (Jake Gyllenhaal). Her acclaimed performance once again brought forth Oscar talk that first led to a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress, while only weeks prior, she was announced as co-host along with James Franco of the 83rd Annual Academy Awards.Friday, October 7, 2011

Shenae Grimes - The half-Irish star appeared in an unaired pilot for Nickelodeon that was produced by Whoopi Goldberg before getting cast as Darcy Edwards in "Degrassi: The Next Generation." After a year appearing on the show in a supporting role, Grimes moved up in ranks in 2006 and got cast as a main player in the primetime teen soap.Hollywood Models Actress - Shenae Grimes 5
Shenae Grimes - Her character started off as a good girl in Season four, yet by Season seven, Grimes had to portray a teen with a wild streak - one who posted provocative photos of herself on the Internet in the episode titled "Eyes without a Face, Part Two" that aired in 2006.Hollywood Models Actress - Shenae Grimes 6
Shenae Grimes - The success of "Degrassi" gave the actress plenty of buzz stateside. Acting projects came fast for Grimes in 2008, when she starred as Marissa Dahl in "True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet" (Lifetime), and acted alongside Ashley Tisdale in "Picture This!" (ABC Family). Her mainstream breakthrough, however, came when she got cast as Annie Wilson on "90210;" a role that was rumored to have been turned down by pop star Hilary Duff. But it was Grimes who got cast as Annie, a Kansas City-raised teen who relocates to Beverly Hills with her parents (Rob Estes and Lori Loughlin) and her adopted brother Dixon (Tristan Wilds) in the CW dramaHollywood Models Actress - Shenae Grimes 7

Shenae Grimes - The "90210" fish-out-of-water plotline was similar to the one experienced by the original series' twins, Brandon (Priestley) and Brenda (Doherty) Walsh. Grimes found a mentor in Doherty, the TV darling-turned-bad girl, who starred in the original series. Grimes' "90210" role was similar to Doherty's Walsh - spunky, smart, and constantly searching for the perfect party dress. "I was like a kid on Christmas the day Shannen came up on the set," Grimes said. "
